Many children come back from their holidays with some sort of holiday present, our boys came back proudly holding their latest hand made characters for their Toy Story small world play.

Resources

Method

Their Toy Story obsession is still going strong, so they were keen to add some Toy Story 4 characters to their play.

First up were Bunny and Ducky. They made these independently. Finn (age 3) made his 2-D, but Ioan (5) was keen to make them 3-D.

They drew were Gabby Gabby and the Bensons.

Finn made Bullseye for Woody.

Ioan made Duke Caboom. He made it so Duke could ride on his motorbike without falling off. Once he was happy with the design of his bike, he then improved his drawing of Duke.

I can’t even begin to describe how often they play with these toys. They are out on new adventures every single day… not bad for some repurposed kitchen roll!

DfES Early Learning Goals (2017)

Personal, social and emotional development

ELG 06 – Self-confidence and self-awareness:

Children are confident to try new activities, and say why they like some activities more than others. They are confident to speak in a familiar group, will talk about their ideas, and will choose the resources they need for their chosen activities. They say when they do or don’t need help.

Expressive arts and design

ELG 16 – Exploring and using media and materials:

Children safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function.

ELG 17 – Being imaginative:

Children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role-play and stories.
