Invitation to make some friends for Woody and Mr. Potato Head. This was their starting point, to get creative with paper rolls.

Resources

They started off with:

  • Toilet Rolls
  • Kitchen Rolls
  • Egg boxes
  • Wooden forks

They requested:

  • White paint
  • Paint brushes
  • Felt tip pens
  • Googly eyes in two different sizes
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Play dough

Method

As always, I gave the boys no guidance, to ensure the ideas were all their own. Up first was ‘Forky’.

They asked for white paint, to make the forks look plastic. Once they had dried, they stuck on different sized googly eyes and felt tipped on Forky’s facial features. They added a pipe cleaner for his arms.

The shaped the end of their pipe cleaners in to hands. Finn added play dough to the bottom of his, so it would stand up. Ioan didn’t want to get the bottom of his Forky messy, so he skipped the play dough.

DfES Early Learning Goals (2017)

Personal, social and emotional development

ELG 06 – Self-confidence and self-awareness:

Children are confident to try new activities, and say why they like some activities more than others. They are confident to speak in a familiar group, will talk about their ideas, and will choose the resources they need for their chosen activities. They say when they do or don’t need help.

Expressive arts and design

ELG 16 – Exploring and using media and materials:

Children safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function.

ELG 17 – Being imaginative:

Children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role-play and stories.
