I left out the flowers, with some numbers, as an invitation to play. We tried doing this outside, but they all kept blowing away, so we moved indoors. I always find it interesting to see what they’ll do with no guidance.

They started off making a number line. This was a nice calm activity, but I’ve included the video with Ioan’s frustration. He likes everything set out neatly, Finn is a lot messier and that often causes conflict. Just keeping it real!

Once Ioan had set his flowers back out neatly, Finn apologised and they hugged and made up.

ELG 06 – Self-confidence and self-awareness:

Children are confident to try new activities, and say why they like some activities more than others. They are confident to speak in a familiar group, will talk about their ideas, and will choose the resources they need for their chosen activities. They say when they do or don’t need help.


ELG 11 – Numbers:

Children count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number.
