Number printing with Numicon and Duplo. I challenged Finn to see how many shapes he could make with each number.

Resources

  • Numicon
  • Duplo bricks
  • Paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Bowl of water to rinse brushes
  • Paper or card
  • Baby wipes

Method

I left it completely up to Finn to decide how to tackle this challenge. He worked through the numbers methodically in numerical order. Stencilling the number first and painting the Numicon shape, before printing with the Duplo.

Ioan joined in after school and chose to make his shapes with Numicon number ‘ones’, whereas Finn preferred to stick with the Duplo bricks. I have included two number 5s to show their different techniques.

We made up to number 8, before we ran out of space on the waterproof mat. We will carry on another day as I intend to turn these into a number line.
