Normally on a bank holiday, we go for walk at Tegg’s Nose, then take the boys for a drink in the cafe. We can’t go today as our car is out of action, but Finn made his own so he can role play it.

Resources

  • Grimm’s large stepped pyramid
  • Grimm’s stacking bowls
  • Painted wooden figures

Method

Finn started off making chairs for his table, then decided we were going to sit on some stools.

With spending so much time on open ended building and small world play, Finn is much better at perseverance. A few months ago he would have got frustrated about knocking something over, but now he just carries on.

He built a pram for Cian as he can’t sit on a stool yet.

Finn is obsessed with Liam, so the final picture was, “Just me giving Daddy a biiiiiiig kiss. Like that, see!”

Children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role-play and stories.
