Spotting seals at Penrhyn Beach, or ‘Penguin Beach’ as the boys have named it. It was impressive how camoflagued they were, there are 18 seals in the first picture!

Resources

  • Binoculars
  • Wildlife

Method

The boys both enjoyed using the binoculars. Ioan observed the seals as they got in and out of the water. Finn preferred to use the binoculars to compare the physical features of his family, “This way you have got a very big browny green eye like me, but if I turn them round it is very small! Daddy and Ioan and Cian do have blue eyes.”

Afterwards, Ioan wanted to take some photographs with the camera. The next three pictures are his.

DfES Early Learning Goals (2017)

Understanding the world

ELG 13 – People and communities:

Children know about similarities and differences between themselves and others, and among families, communities and traditions.

ELG 14 – The world:

Children know about similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials and living things. They talk about the features of their own immediate environment and how environments might vary from one another. They make observations of animals and plants and explain why some things occur, and talk about changes.

ELG 15 – Technology:

Children recognise that a range of technology is used in places such as homes and schools. They select and use technology for particular purposes.
