Ioan and Finn had to roll two dice, then add the totals together to try and collect the ingredients for their Union Jack.
Resources
- Two dice: I gave them both one with spots and one with numbers
- Plate
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- Squirty cream
- Meringue
- Marshmallows
- Mikado
- Numberblocks
- Union Jack flag
Method
First, Ioan rolled two fives. He knew 5+5=10, so was able to collect some meringue. Finn rolled a five and a four, so used his numberblocks to work out the answer. 5+4=9, allowing him to get some squirty cream.
Next, Ioan was able to collect some blueberries and Finn was able to get some marshmallow.
Finn kept rolling numbers too small, but persevered and it paid off when he was able to get some strawberries.
Finn needed an 8 to get his blueberries, so he kept turning the dice to 4 and 4 in his hands and trying unsuccessfully to place them in the bowl. The smile on his face when he finally rolled an 8, showed it was worth the wait.
They went on to complete their flags, with Finn being the first to get his mikado for his flag pole by rolling 6+6=12.
