The Kano computer is designed to help children learn basic coding through play. We thought this was a different way to help support Ioan’s reading and spelling, as well as working on numbers. The Kano is Ioan’s chance to spend one-to-one time with Daddy.

Method

First of all, Ioan helped Liam to follow the instructions and build the computer.

Then they had a go at creating his first simple code. Liam demonstrated how to use the mouse pad and select and drag items. Ioan had never done this before, so it took some practise, but he was soon able to do it. Ioan was able to recognise some of the words within the code himself.

Ioan picked a dark blue background, to draw a little circle in light blue every frame.

Next, Ioan made the size of the circles larger.
