Finn made Supertato using a real potato last year, but Ioan was keen to make one out of our art and craft resources, so he wouldn’t have to worry about the potato getting old. He even decided to decorate a shoe box, so he could store all his vegetables inside.

Resources

  • Supertato books by Paul Linnet and Sue Hendra
  • Art and craft resources
  • Shoe box

Method

This was entirely child-led. Ioan found the resources and made all the vegetables himself.

He used some of our Grimm’s bricks and boards to make a supermarket aisle to display his new veggies. To start with he made tomato, radish, peas, broccoli, pineapple, carrot, sweetcorn, cucumber and Supertato.

Then he added an ice lolly, chilli and fish finger. Soon the sweet potato, courgette and carrot ‘Super Veggies’ joined them.

He enjoyed demonstrated how to store them all back in the box afterwards.

Now he’s made them, he plans to read all of the books to us, using his characters.
